Over Tea is a 15 second animation I realized over the course of 8 hours to showcase my progress in 2d animation. It is based on a character concept I developed for a tone assignment, exploring the contrast between inner turmoil and outer calm - or the demons we fight at night and put away in the morning when it’s time for tea. Maybe even talking those demons out over said tea, and finding some solace in interpersonal support.
Process
The process for this project was iterative and linear, starting off simple and building off each previous piece in complexity. The original tone drawings increment thusly, from the two-tone wolf (harsh, explicit, strong in expression and emotion), to the moonlight scene (more subdued but still clearly melancholic, the light cutting a stark silhouette), to the softer morning (full 6-toned gradient, stability, calm). With the animation, I tried to capture a similar gradation and contrast, as seen first with the timing in the animatic, and then the choice of color in the final piece.
